Slippers Staff – drawn by our kids!

Slippers’ biggest strength is its staff. With an excellent balance of experience, knowledge and qualifications, the team offers the home from home feeling the children enjoy. The relaxed, child-centred atmosphere gives them a tremendous feeling of belonging and develops their sense of value. By achieving a balance of maturity and experience with energy and innovation, our staff hope that children look forward to their time at Slippers.

Angela PinchinAngela Pinchin, Slippers Extended Provision Executive Adviser, describes her philosophy for a successful child care provision:

I achieved my BA(Hons) in Childhood and Youth Studies and a CPD in PSHEE whilst employed as a Teaching Assistant within Westfield supporting a child with additional needs. My role within school included leading Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education for many years – therefore I understand the importance of developing a sense of value and wellbeing in children, and the impact it has on their lives and the choices they make as adults. This, coupled with being a mother of 4 wonderful boys (including twins) puts me in ideal stead to understand family problems, behavioural issues and day to day traumas!

I was given the opportunity to develop this provision right from the beginning and treasured my time working full time within Slippers. I have recently taken the opportunity to return to Westfield to work as their Family Liaison Lead. This is an exciting role that combines mentoring children, assisting with safeguarding concerns and working with families and their children. However, I cannot leave Slippers! I have remained as their adviser and therefore am able to ensure the team maintains the same ethos.

Sarah Gutteridge, Slippers Manager

Sarah has seen her job develop into an increasingly important role since our start in 2010. Initially, our Administration Manager, she couples her administration duties and financial management with a compassionate and approachable nature that truly holds the children’s interests at heart. These crucial qualities result in good relations with all our children and families – she always takes time to listen!

Janet Cooper, Slippers Session Lead

Janet joined Slippers in September 2011 as a part time Playworker. Right from the beginning you could see her commitment to the children’s enjoyment and her sense of fun. She quickly became a popular staff member and increased her hours, and qualified to level 2 in Playwork. She recently took the Session Lead position and is responsible for the wonderful variety of activities on offer.

All our staff hold 12hr Paediatric First Aid and Food Hygiene qualifications.

Many of our part time staff work within Westfield during the day, but are careful to switch roles to offer a play environment that is not at all an extension of school, which increases the children’s feeling of belonging.
