Slippers Extended Provision

Extended care for your child:

Before school  ·  After school  ·  During school holidays

Slippers – almost home! …a harmonious child-centred setting where children feel valued, learn to play together co-operatively and appreciate each other as individuals.

Slippers Extended Provision opened in February 2010 and has rapidly proved extremely popular. We offer before and after school care, plus school holiday provision for children of primary school age. Currently the numbers are limited, so don’t delay in contacting us for each school term.

Our aim is to provide a homely environment on the school premises, where children can relax and take part in activities that interest them.  After just 2 years in operation Ofsted inspection gave Slippers a brilliant ‘Good’ with comments such as, ‘This is a very harmonious setting where children learn to play together co-operatively and appreciate each other as individuals.’ We maintained our ‘Good’ status in a follow up inspection in August 2015 where further positive comments were made such as ‘Children are highly engaged in activities and very well settled…The manager is passionate about her role… and arrangements to safeguard the children are strong.’; We think this is brilliant.

The children’s time at Slippers is not simply an extension of their school day as the activities that take place are resourced to support the children’s own choices. Stimulating themes are planned throughout the year to offer an organised structure on which the children can build. However, these are just guidelines; the activities are flexible to support the children’s choices and interpretations. For instance, they often choose to perform plays with our stage curtains, make healthy snacks, create fantastic junk models or just role play. We do have a TV and electronic games but these are regularly overlooked by the children in favour of social interaction with their peers. We are outside whenever possible and use all of the school’s excellent outside areas. Our qualified staff does include many familiar faces from within Westfield which we feel increases the children’s feeling of safety and security, also adding to our knowledge and understanding of the children’s interests and family.
